RUSIKO

RUSIKO

Occupation: I’m an animator. I make films and web sites.
My style: A vintage look into the future.
Style influences: The 1940’s, 1920’s, art history, cartoon history.
Hair: Right now, I’m just on my way to the gym, so I haven’t done my hair yet. When my hair is actually done, it’s exactly the same colour as my boots. I think red brings out my eyes, so I dye it red constantly.
Dress: I pretty much just bought it on impulse in Chinatown. It reminded me of something you might see in Gotham City.
Brooch: The broach is a gift from a family friend. Pink is my favourite colour. I liked that it was really big and it sparkled so much. I tend to like things that are really shiny, and bright, and sparkly.
Bag: It’s my aunt’s. I just borrowed it because it fit all my stuff today.
Boots: My aunt bought them for me to go with my hair. We have a similar style. She’s an artist also, so we often shop together.
Where I get my stuff: Vintage stores, Queen Street West, Spadina, Chinatown, etc. I get a lot of stuff custom made, or just gifts from designers. A lot of my friends are fashion designers.
Least favourite clothing: I don’t really like jeans, but I wear them because sometimes you just have to haul heavy equipment around all day.
Interests: Making cartoons, writing music, watching a lot of sci-fi. Battlestar Galactica is an obsession of mine.
Favourite music: Mozart, jazz, funk.
Favourite books: Oscar Wilde, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Favourite movies: I like good art direction. I like things like “Sin City”. I love beautifully made movies. I prefer sci-fi and a lot of action, but I’ll watch anything that looks really good.
Favourite food: Indian, buttered chicken.
Final words: I think a lot of people play it too safe. I would love to see more colours and more extravagance out on the streets. Otherwise, I’m bored.

Street style: VIKTORIYA

VIKTORIYA

VIKTORIYA

What’s your occupation?
I sell clothes and I work in a bar on weekends. I’m a shooter girl.

What do you like about being a shooter girl?
It’s entertaining. I love people. I’m a people person.

How would you describe your style?
Funky, unique, colourful, and attention getting. I think it’s very European influenced, because I’m from Europe. I’m really into UK music and style.

Let me ask about what you’re wearing. Sunglasses?
Aviators. I think it suits me. I got it at Bang-On. I like that store.

Earrings?
I like big loop earrings. Earrings have to be big, because then people can see them.

Scarf?
It’s H&M. It’s warm. And then, it’s stylish.

Jacket?
It’s Le Château. I like leather. It’s practical, too.

Leggings?
Well, it’s different. I haven’t seen many people wearing them.

Shoes?
My footwear has to be comfortable. I’m on my feet all the time, so that’s important.

Is there anything you’d never wear?
There’s probably stuff that I won’t wear, but I still can if I customize them. I customize a lot of my clothes. I’m always ready to experiment with stuff.

What do you do for fun?
I go out with my friends, and we party. I attend a lot of parties. I can really relate to that scene.

What do you want to do in the future?
I’m confused. I don’t know. I’m in Ryerson (University) for sociology, but I still don’t know what I want to do. I’m there for the degree. I have no idea.

Any final words?
I admire people who wear something really crazy, and really unique. Like a lot of piercings or tattoos, for example. They stand out, and that’s important. You enjoy it when you walk down the street and you see somebody like that. I think it’s really cool.

Occupation: Student
My style: I wouldn’t really describe it as anything. It’s more just clothes I like.
Hair: I kind of just put colours together and see how they turn out. If I don’t like it, I re-dye it. The cut, I’ve done myself.
Necklace: The lock part of it is from my friend’s pants. I saw the lock on his pants and I asked if I could have it, because I thought it would make a cool necklace. And the other part, the necklace part, is from Chinatown.
Shirt: Green is one of my favourite colours. I basically just like the way it fits, and I like the patterns on it.
Sweater: It’s just a red American Apparel sweater. Red is also one of my favourite colours. I’ve had it for a while, and I wear it every day.
Shoes: I’ve always worn Converse. I’m trying to get every colour they have.
Interests: Playing bass, drawing, listening to music, hanging out with my friends.
Favourite food: Well, I’m a vegan, so I don’t eat anything that comes from animals. And my favourite food would probably be soy ice cream, which is ice cream with no animal products in it.
Career goals: I either want to be a hairstylist or a journalist.

>CHLOE

Occupation: Student
My style: I’m a raver.
Hair: I dye it and bleach it myself. I’ve had it blue for almost a year now, because it’s my favourite colour.
Tank top: I stole it from my little sister’s friend. I don’t think she knows. She left it at our house. Solid tank tops look really good with these pants.
Pants: I went on a trip to France. I saw them and I loved them, because I can’t find animal print pants in Canada. I like skinny jeans and I like animal print.
Shoes: I bought them in France, because the ones that I was wearing before tore up the middle. I really needed new shoes, and these were the prettiest colours. I’ve been wearing Converse since I was really young.
Interests: Drawing, playing bass, listening to music.
Favourite music: Techno, happy hardcore, drum and bass, indie.
Favourite food: Mr. Noodles. I’m a vegetarian, so I like veggie Mr. Noodles.
Career goal: I really want to be a commercial artist, just because it’s what my grandmother did. I’ve been looking through a lot of her old stuff, and it’s something that really interests me.

Street style: JENNIFER

April 7, 2008

JENNIFER

JENNIFER

Occupation: Student
My style is: Inspired by Montreal Goth. Goth culture is huge in Montreal. I used to live there.
Hat: My sister got it for me for Christmas.
Hair: I had to go for a job interview at kind of a more classy place, so I had to have a normal colour. Before this, it was really bright pink. I just dyed it, and I haven’t had a chance to change it back yet.
Necklace: I got it for my cousin’s wedding. It looks kind of dressy, but I can wear it with pretty much anything.
Fishnet shirt: Red has always been one of my favourite colours. As well, I like the spider web pattern in it.
Black shirt: It looked like a corset, but it was more comfortable, so that’s mostly what attracted me to it.
Pants: They’re from my school uniform.
Favourite colours to wear: Exactly what I’ve got on now. Black, red and white. The combination of the three of them has always attracted me. The contrast, especially.
Interests: Playing guitar, reading novels. Just anything having to do with music. I’m mostly a guitarist, but I can play pretty much any instrument. So, just hand me an instrument and in five minutes I can play it.
Favourite music: Mostly metal, but I will listen to other things as well. Not much country or rap, but that does make its way into what I listen to. My mom always tried to keep me really open to everything.
I like to read: Murder mysteries, H. P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe.
TV and movies: I don’t watch TV at all. And movies, I only go to maybe once every two years.
Favourite food: Gingerbread.  Not the cookies, but the actual bread. I was raised with it, and it’s really sweet.
In the future: I want to be able to teach music. Music has been the biggest thing in my life. It’s gotten me through everything.
